Healthy Travel Tips
Traveling can be hard on the body, and it’s difficult to avoid becoming rundown and fatigued. Whether it’s for business or pleasure, when I travel I need to feel my best to be ready for that big meeting, busy days, or simply to enjoy myself in a new city. I love to keep things simple and travel as light as possible, and here are a few easily attainable routines that I like to follow to keep me balanced and healthy when traveling.
Give yourself an energy boost
Let’s face it, travel days are a hectic grind. Who feels me? No matter how hard I tried, commuting to and from, sitting in chaotic airports, and the dreaded jetlag always zapped my energy levels down to zero. Then I came across a much-needed secret weapon. Now, whenever I travel I pack myself a few of Sisu’s Ester-C® Energy Boost. Think of it like a healthy take on an energy drink. These convenient little packs are chock-full of Vitamin C and loaded with antioxidants, B vitamins, and electrolytes, which is perfect for giving yourself a much needed boost, assisting the immune system, and preventing a debilitating crash.
Breathe
It’s far too easy to get caught up in the frenetic pace of travel days. When I start feeling anxious from rushing from gate to gate or thinking to what tasks I still need to accomplish on my flight, I always have to remind myself to take a minute to calm down and chill out. All you need to do is this - first, drop your phone, computer, or any other handheld distractions. Wherever you’re sitting, close your eyes and take a deep breath. My go-to is on the plane - once I plop down into my seat, I take several deep breaths and simply clear my mind of everything to take a little mini meditation. Yeah, I’m sure it sounds corny, but investing these 2-3 minutes has a payoff that’s way bigger than expected. So try it - fight the urge to keep scrambling through your tasks and to-do lists, and you will feel grounded with a clear mind to methodically tackle the rest of your day.
Boost your immune system
It’s obvious that hopping on multiple flights will result in a long, tiring day. Once you survive it, you have to do better than crossing your fingers and hoping that you didn’t catch something from the sneezing kid you sat next to for five hours. You’ve got to give your immune system a little jump-start as your last line of defence. So I always make sure to carry Sisu Ester-C® Supreme, a unique, patented formula full of vitamin C. It has been proven to last up to 24 hours in the white blood cells of the immune system, so before I feel the early onset of sickness taking shape, I take an Ester-C® Supreme to boost my immune system. Nipping any bug before it takes control!
Stretch
Getting your mind right and your immune system in gear are necessities, but you can’t neglect your body! If you end up planted in your seat and motionless for several hours, your lower back will be shot and your joints will be aching. I find any excuse to stretch because it will get the blood moving and loosen up your muscles and joints before it’s too late. I know what you’re thinking - this sounds really unrealistic to find somewhere to stretch on the plane. But that’s just it, you don’t need much space at all. Raise your arms and reach for the sky even while you’re sitting in your seat, roll out your ankles and toes, and extend your legs under the seat in front of you. Make sure you get up at least once or twice during the flight to walk around - believe me, your back and hips will thank you for it. I also love to take Sisu Full Spectrum Curcumin which is a safe, natural remedy that’s an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that’s amazing for eliminating my joint pain, and it’s beneficial for skin, intestinal and lung health. Then when I hop off the flight my body is still loose, and if need be I can do some deeper stretches for problem areas like my neck and shoulders once I arrive at the hotel.
